Karonhianónhnha Leadership Update - 2026-2028

The Kahnawà:ke Education Center is happy to share an update regarding leadership at Karonhianónhnha Tsi lonterihwaienstáhkhwa. During the 2026-2028 school years, the school will implement a new shared leadership pilot, introducing co-principals, lakotstshén: en Jacobs and Kanerahtontha Mahkewa, who will work together to support school operations, student success, and overall school improvement. Both bring relevant knowledge and experience to their new roles, which will ensure a smooth transition and the continuity needed to maintain the mission and vision of community education.

The model is grounded in the principle of Sha'tetionkwätte (equality without hierarchy), a Haudenosaunee leadership model, emphasizing shared joint accountability, strong communication, and collaboration.

  • This approach is designed to:
  • Strengthen collaboration in leadership
  • Support student success, wellness, and learning
  • Reinforce language and cultural priorities
  • Build on the strengths of the leadership team

"lontiatshennón:ni tsi skátne enionkeniö'teke' ki:ken entsóhserate'. Kwah i:ken tsi kaio'tenhserowá:nen aiontenonhsanön:na'. Eniatiahkwishron' tsi nió:re' tsi ionkenikwénion." - lakotstshén:'en, Kanerahtontha

The school will continue to be supported by a range of resources, including coaching, curriculum support, and specialized consultants to support a smooth and successful transition.

Additionally, as part of this transition:
Konwenni Zachary, former Associate Principal, will take on the role of Early Years Teacher Coach, with a focus on early learning and land-based education. We extend our sincere gratitude to her for her dedicated service, leadership, and the meaningful contributions she has made to the school community.

This pilot project will be reviewed over the two-year period to ensure it continues to meet the needs of students, staff, and families. We look forward to this collaborative approach and the continued growth of the Karonhianónhnha Tsi lonterihwaienstáhkhwa community
